About Us – Our Story

Friction Walls was originally a subsidiary of Tjelmeland Friksjon, a company founded by Magne Tjelmeland in 1996. Tjelmeland Friksjon was a pioneer in the Norwegian climbing wall industry, having built climbing walls across the country for several decades. In fact, more than half of all climbing facilities in Norway were constructed by Tjelmeland Friksjon.

The company also played a key role in establishing some of the largest commercial indoor climbing centers in Norway, including Oslo Klatresenter and Gneis Lilleaker.

Tjelmeland Friksjon had a highly skilled and innovative development department. Among their contributions were the Tilt Wall system and a variety of advanced solutions for large-scale climbing facilities. We also developed LED wall systems, including a LED wall for autobelay, which we still believe has strong international potential.

Although we no longer build large-scale climbing centers, we continue to maintain and develop key technologies. These include online design tools with integrated structural analysis modules, built specifically for our custom support systems, as well as LED wall technology for modular climbing walls.

We are always open to collaboration and are happy to share our technology and expertise for mutual benefit.
